How to Tile Your Small Shower

A tiled shower adds value, beauty and durability to your home. Follow these steps to tile the shower carefully without involving any future possibilities of leaking and other problems. Retiling a shower is an easy way to improve your house, without having to take out a home equity release to do it.

You will first have to find and then mark the center point on the wall and draw a line. Then, draw a line of 13”, the length of a tile, including the grout line.

You then have to apply the mesh tape on the cement board joints.

Then, proceed with spreading a drop cloth over the shower pan. The edges of the shower pan must be masked off with the painter’s tape.

You will then have to prepare the adhesive needed to glue the tiles together. For this, you will need to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and accordingly use a drill with paddle bit to mix the adhesive well. The adhesive should have the uniformity of a bake frost.

The next step is to make use of a trowel to spread the adhesive evenly over the area where the first tile will be placed. You must also make small grooves in the adhesive to enable the tiles to stick better. You must not use excessive thinset at one time or else the tiles will not stick for long.

Then, proceed with measuring and marking the center of the first tile. You must now arrange this tile with the reference lines on the cement board. The tile must be placed properly in the adhesive.

Continue setting the remaining tiles in similar manner. Smooth grout joints can be gotten by using the tile spacers.

You must then cut the tiles using a wet saw to prevent dust from getting accumulated and to avoid the saw from greasing.

Apply the grout when the adhesive is dry and the grout sealer when the grout dries.
