Enigin and Engines!

First Intervention Vehicle (FIV) on the Scottish Hill Rally 2007 with Yours truly and my Wife somewhere in the Trossachs.
I have just gotten a post from a friend of mine about motosport that I thought looked interesting. If you want to see more visit his Enigin blog!
I got into motorsport pretty early in life due in the main to the antics of my father who was a very keen motocross follower. In the late 50s and 60s the Lampkin family were as strong then as they have been over the last couple of years. This was also the time when at the likes of the British MotoCross Gp the commentary would be handled by the now famous Murray Walker who himself was a very keen follower of motorsport. I had the pleasure of meeting him, although I cannot remember the circumstances or content of conversation, at the 1963 GP at Hawkstone Park in Shropshire. The ironic thing is that who would have thought that many years later I would actually have the pleasure of meeting him again over 3 consecutive years at F1 GP at Silverstone in 1988/89/90 when I was involved in the Safety and Medical Services to motorsport as a Rescue Crew, Team Leader.
I started competing in rallies during the early part of my military career, entering the RAC Rally with a Mini Cooper in the late 60s and then in a Mk 1 Escort in the early 70s. Sadly though and I admit it freely, I did not have the bottle to keep pressing the loud pedal so I ended up Co-Driving (Navigator) and did this quite successfully for various drivers in various super cars for a number of years retiring from international events in 1986.
Still having a desire to be involved with rallying and off-road events, I trained with the Ambulance and Fire Services prior to setting up my own Motorsport Rescue Team in 1988. These teams have to be present at all motorsport events and following licensing my team was in regular attendance at both major and minor events throughout the UK
For the last few years my involvement in motorsport has dwindled as I finally retired some 2 years ago from being an active participant. I now just offer advice and training to the younger generation that have now taken up the mantle. I am now employed by a company in Cornwall whose remit is Energy Saving. It’s a long way from motorsport but there are some staff members that also have a great interest so the opportunity for rag chewing is available. Why not take a look at my blog site and see what I’m up to now.
